- Moving a Peloton or Home Gym Equipment in NYC
A Peloton or treadmill isn’t just a heavy piece of furniture. The screen, the frame, and the motor each need their own handling, and getting it wrong can crack a console or strain a motor mount that a couch would never put at risk. Check what comes apart before the crew arrives, not after they’re already lifting it.
Why a Peloton or Treadmill Isn’t Just “Big Furniture”
The console and frame need separate handling, because one is fragile and the other is simply heavy.
A bike’s touchscreen console is the most fragile part of the move, not the frame underneath it. A treadmill’s belt and motor housing add weight in a way that’s unevenly distributed, which makes a flat carry different from carrying a dresser of similar weight. Treating either like standard furniture is how a console gets cracked or a motor mount gets strained during the carry.
What Needs to Come Apart Before the Move
Pedals, consoles, and in some cases the frame itself need to come off before the equipment leaves the room.
Pedals typically come off a bike to narrow it for doorways and stairwells. The console should be secured or removed separately rather than left attached and exposed during the carry. A treadmill’s deck may need to fold or tilt depending on the model, and that step should happen before anyone tries to move it through a doorway, not mid-carry when space runs out.
What to Check Before Booking
Measure doorway and elevator clearance for the equipment’s full length, not just its folded footprint.
A folded treadmill is still long, and that length matters more in a stairwell turn than in a straight hallway. Confirm the clearance at the tightest point of the path, the same way you would for a piano or a pool table. If the equipment has a replacement value well above what standard weight-based coverage would pay out, mention that when booking.
Equipment | Approx. Weight | Key Prep Step |
Exercise bike (Bike / Bike+ style) | Around 135 to 140 lbs | Remove pedals, secure the console |
Treadmill (Tread style) | Around 455 lbs | Fold or tilt the deck, confirm path clearance in advance |
