Senior Moves and Downsizing

A senior move is one of the most logistically and emotionally layered jobs in residential moving. A parent or relative leaving a home of 20 or 40 years for a senior living community, an assisted living facility, or a family member’s home is making decisions about what comes with them and what stays behind throughout the day of the move. Dream Moving assigns a crew for senior jobs that works at a considered pace, waits during decision-making, and treats every item – including items that will not be coming – with the same care as anything going onto the truck.

For moves into assisted living facilities or continuing care retirement communities, we coordinate with the facility’s residential services or move-in coordinator before the job is scheduled to confirm move-in window, elevator access, and any facility-specific requirements for the moving crew. COI naming the facility as additional insured is filed same-day at no charge where required. We confirm the destination room dimensions before the crew departs so furniture placement is planned, not improvised, on arrival.

Student and College Moves

Veterans and Active Military

Military relocations under PCS (Permanent Change of Station) orders require specific logistics that distinguish them from standard residential moves. A move crossing a state line is an interstate move governed by USDOT regulations, which require a binding written estimate – not an hourly quote – before the job is booked. Dream Moving holds active USDOT operating authority for all interstate moves. For PCS moves, we issue a binding estimate, provide full inventory documentation, and give the client the paperwork required for military moving reimbursement processing.

For local moves within New York City by active duty service members or veterans, we run the job on the standard all-inclusive hourly basis. We confirm the origin and destination, the crew size, and any base-access coordination required at either end of the move.

Diplomatic and Government Relocations

Diplomatic moves – for UN Permanent Representatives, UN agency staff, consular officials, and embassy personnel – have security and protocol requirements that standard residential moves do not. All crew members on diplomatic jobs are confirmed in advance with the mission’s administrative contact.

White glove is not a different service -it is a different standard of execution applied to any move type. A white glove job at Dream Moving includes a pre-move walk-through of the origin address to identify fragile, oversized, or high-value items that need specific handling; a room-by-room placement plan confirmed with the client before the crew loads the truck; protective floor runners and door frame padding at both origin and destination; blanket wrap on every piece of furniture without exception; and a post-move placement confirmation where the client walks each room to confirm item placement before the crew leaves.

White glove applies to any move size and any building type. The minimum job length is 2 hours. The all-inclusive rate covers the full crew, the truck, blanket wrap, and basic valuation coverage. For PCS and interstate moves, pricing shifts to a binding written estimate as required by USDOT federal regulations – this is stated and confirmed at the quote stage.
