All I can say is that moving with Dream Moving was an absolute dream!! I have heard of so many moving companies who make your move a total nightmare, so I was not going into hiring movers with high hopes. After doing a lot of research and reading many reviews, I was still on the fence on who to hire. It came down to a friend of mine referring me to Dream Moving, so I decided to go with them. I was moving my wife and baby from our 2 bedroom apartment in Manhattan to our new 2 story house in North Carolina. Dream Moving quoted me the lowest out of any other movers (extremely lower than any other company) and they did not raise the price on me in any way before or after the move was over. They arrived on time, moved me out of my apartment, then drove straight through that day/night and delivered my stuff 15 hours later! So many other moving companies would give me a window from anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks, but not Dream Moving! They were professional, courteous, efficient, fast, and reliable. I would really like to thank John, Cristian, and Washington for making everything go so smoothly. You guys were amazing!! John was the best supervisor you could ever work with and Cristian and Washington were the 2 who drove all the way to North Carolina and unloaded all our furniture. I would also like to thank George for putting the quote together and helping me get through the whole process of setting up my move. I will definitely be referring this moving company to everyone I know in the future!Posted on Nikki KTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. best moving company in nycPosted on Savannah GrimmettTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Moving in Ulster County is not one logistics problem – it is four. In the east, a move in Kingston’s Stockade District means navigating streets laid out before the American Revolution, where a full-size moving truck will block Wall Street or Main Street before the first box reaches the door without an early-morning staging plan. In the center, a SUNY New Paltz move-in means competing for loading zone access with a hundred other families on the same August weekend. In the west, a move into Woodstock via Tinker Street in summer means tourist foot traffic from 9 AM onward and a parking situation that requires coordination before the crew departs. And deep in the Catskills, a move to Phoenicia, Shandaken, or beyond via Route 28 means mountain grades, narrow roads, and driveways that a 26-foot truck cannot navigate – requiring a smaller shuttle truck to complete the job.
Dream Moving covers all of Ulster County, from Highland and Marlborough at the Orange County bridge crossings in the south to Saugerties and Catskill-border communities in the north, and from the Hudson River corridor east to Woodstock, Phoenicia, and the western Catskill communities. We know the Stockade District. We coordinate SUNY New Paltz campus moves. We assess Catskill mountain road access before the crew departs. Every job gets an all-inclusive hourly quote with no charges added at the door.

Ulster County Property Types - What Each One Requires
Single-Family Homes - Hudson River Corridor and Central Ulster
Single-family detached homes are the dominant residential building type across eastern and central Ulster, particularly in Saugerties, Ulster Park, Esopus, Highland, Marlborough, New Paltz, Gardiner, Rosendale, Stone Ridge, High Falls, and Accord. Most properties have driveways that reduce carry distance. Interior staircases are standard. In established village centers – particularly Saugerties village, New Paltz village, and Stone Ridge – some homes are close to the street on narrow lots where truck positioning requires a pre-move plan. We assess carry distance and staging for all village-center addresses at quote time.
Urban and Multi-Family Buildings - Kingston and Ellenville
Kingston (both the city and surrounding areas) and Ellenville have the county’s densest concentrations of apartment buildings, multi-family homes, and managed rental buildings. In the City of Kingston, COI naming the building’s managing agent as additional insured with minimum $1 million in general liability is required in most managed buildings. Ellenville has a compact urban core with apartment buildings and row houses requiring staircase crews. We file COIs same-day at no charge and confirm building access at booking for all Kingston and Ellenville managed-building jobs.
Catskill Mountain Communities - Woodstock, Phoenicia, and Beyond
Western Ulster’s Catskill communities — Woodstock, Bearsville, Willow, Lake Hill, Phoenicia, Mount Tremper, Big Indian, Pine Hill, Shandaken, Oliverea, West Shokan, Shokan, and Olivebridge — present the most logistically complex residential moves in the Hudson Valley. Route 28 climbs from Kingston through the mountains, narrowing as it ascends. Side roads branching from Route 28 frequently become one-lane, steep, unpaved, or all three. A standard 26-foot moving truck cannot safely navigate many of these roads. We assess every Catskill address for road width, surface condition, grade, and truck clearance before scheduling. When a full-size truck cannot reach the property, we use a shuttle truck to transfer items from the main truck staged at a lower accessible point to the property entrance. The shuttle requirement is disclosed in writing before the move date.
Historic Village and Waterfront Properties
Kingston’s Stockade District is a National Historic Landmark with streets – including Wall Street, Main Street, Clinton Avenue, and Fair Street – that were laid out in the 1600s and are too narrow for a full-size moving truck to idle without blocking traffic. The Rondout waterfront in Kingston has cobblestone street surfaces on sections of Rondout Landing and Broadway at the Creek. Moving trucks on cobblestone require proper load securing to prevent cargo shift during slow navigation over the rough surface. Woodstock’s Tinker Street is pedestrian-active and tourist-heavy from spring through fall. Saugerties village center and New Paltz village center have active main streets with limited staging windows during business hours. We schedule historic district and waterfront moves for early morning (before 8 AM) or Sunday and confirm truck positioning before the crew departs.
Rural, Farm, and Mountain Estate Properties
The western and southern portions of Ulster County – particularly in Olive, Rochester (Town of Rochester, not Rochester NY), Accord, Kerhonkson, Napanoch, Wawarsing, Denning, and Hardenburgh – contain properties on private or unpaved rural roads, elevated mountain terrain, and in some cases active agricultural land with long private road approaches and limited truck turn-around space. Seasonal road conditions in the Catskills – particularly during mud season (March through May) and after significant snowfall – can temporarily restrict truck access to some mountain addresses. We assess road surface, seasonal condition, driveway dimensions, and truck clearance for all rural and mountain Ulster addresses before scheduling.
Ulster County Truck Routing - Key Corridors
Ulster County has no truck-banned parkways within its borders – unlike Dutchess County to the east (where the Taconic is banned) or the southern Hudson Valley counties. The county’s road network for commercial vehicles is relatively open, with the key corridors being I-87 (NY Thruway) for north-south movement in eastern Ulster, Route 9W for the Hudson River corridor, Route 28 for westbound access into the Catskills, Route 209 for south-central Ulster, and Route 32 for central north-south movement.
From the South (Orange County): I-87 northbound from Exit 16 (Harriman) to Exit 18 (New Paltz) or Exit 19 (Kingston) for eastern and central Ulster. Route 9W northbound for the Hudson River corridor from the Mid-Hudson Bridge at Highland.
From the East (Dutchess County): Mid-Hudson Bridge (Route 44/55) westbound to Highland for central and southern Ulster. Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge (Route 199) westbound to Rhinecliff for Kingston and northern Ulster.

Dream Moving specializes in tackling these challenges. Our professional team ensures your move is smooth and stress-free from start to finish. We provide services tailored to your needs, no matter the distance or complexity.
Within Ulster: I-87 / NY Thruway for north-south along the eastern edge. Route 28 westbound from Kingston for all Catskill community moves – noting mountain grade and narrow road constraints west of Woodstock. Route 9W north-south for the river corridor. Route 209 south from Kingston for Stone Ridge, High Falls, Accord, Kerhonkson, Ellenville. Route 32 north-south through the center (New Paltz to Saugerties). Route 375 for Woodstock access from the Route 28 junction.

SUNY New Paltz - College Move Coordination
SUNY New Paltz is the county's largest higher education institution, with approximately 7,000 residential students generating high move volume at the start and end of each academic year. Peak windows are late August (fall move-in), mid-May (spring move-out), and mid-January (mid-year transitions). On fall move-in weekend, the New Paltz campus and surrounding streets become one of the most congested environments in Ulster County: hundreds of families arrive simultaneously, competing for loading zones at residence halls.
Dream Moving contacts the SUNY New Paltz Residential Life office before scheduling any on-campus or campus-adjacent move to confirm loading zone assignments, elevator access windows in multi-story residence halls, and vehicle size restrictions on campus roads. For off-campus student housing moves in the Village of New Paltz and surrounding streets, we assess street staging and schedule off-peak windows when possible. We discuss the move-in weekend congestion calendar with every New Paltz client at the quote stage.
How Ulster County Moves Are Priced?
All Ulster County moves are priced hourly. The rate is based on crew size and truck configuration. Dream Moving’s all-inclusive hourly quote covers labor, truck, fuel, blanket wrap, and basic valuation coverage. Bridge and highway tolls for moves crossing the Mid-Hudson Bridge or the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge are included in the quote and never added afterward. There is no flight-of-stairs fee, no fuel surcharge, no shuttle truck surcharge for Catskill mountain addresses, and no charge for COI filing or SUNY New Paltz coordination. The minimum job length is 2 hours. The price confirmed at quote is the price on your invoice.

Eastern Ulster / Hudson River - Communities We Serve
Eastern Ulster runs along the Hudson River from Marlborough in the south through Milton, Highland, Ulster Park, Port Ewen, Eddyville, Rhinecliff, Glasco, Saugerties, and north toward the Greene County border. Kingston is the zone's urban anchor - the county seat, Ulster's largest city, and one of the most historically significant small cities in New York State. The NY Thruway (I-87) and Route 9W are the primary truck corridors through this zone. Kingston's Stockade District and Rondout waterfront require specific staging planning. There is no Metro-North service on the Ulster (west) side of the Hudson - all residents are car-dependent.
|

Central Ulster - Communities We Serve
Central Ulster is defined by New Paltz, SUNY New Paltz campus, Gardiner, Rosendale, High Falls, Stone Ridge, Accord, and the communities strung along Route 32 and Route 213 between Kingston in the north and the Shawangunk Ridge in the south. The Shawangunk Ridge (the Gunks) creates dramatic terrain in the zone’s southern portion: the escarpment rises sharply from the flat farmland of the Wallkill Valley in Gardiner and Wallkill below. Some properties on or near the Shawangunk Ridge have steep driveway approaches that limit truck size. New Paltz is both a commercial center and a college town, generating the county’s highest per-capita move volume.

Catskill Communities (Western Ulster) - Communities We Serve
Western Ulster’s Catskill communities are the most logistically demanding residential move environment in the entire Hudson Valley. Route 28 climbs westward from Kingston, passing through Woodstock, Bearsville, Willow, Lake Hill, Phoenicia, Stony Clove, Mount Tremper, Shandaken, Big Indian, Pine Hill, Oliverea, and eventually crossing into Delaware County. As the road climbs and the mountains close in, it narrows. Side roads branching from Route 28 – and the driveways that branch from those side roads – frequently reach dimensions that a standard 26-foot moving truck cannot navigate safely. Mountain grades add strain on truck drivetrains. Stream crossings on secondary roads may have weight-restricted bridges. Dream Moving treats every Catskill address as requiring an access assessment before the crew is dispatched.
|
Catskill Communities – Western Ulster |
|
Woodstock (Town and Hamlet) – Most famous community in Ulster County; Tinker Street (the village center) is narrow, pedestrian-heavy, and tourist-active from spring through fall – truck staging on Tinker Street during peak hours is extremely constrained; early weekday morning moves (before 8 AM) strongly recommended for all Tinker Street-adjacent addresses; surrounding residential roads vary widely in width and grade; some mountain road properties above the village require shuttle truck assessment; access via Route 375 from Route 28 |
|
Bearsville (Woodstock) – Hamlet immediately west of Woodstock; primarily single-family homes on Bearsville Road and surrounding lanes; many properties are on narrow unpaved or low-grade roads; truck access assessment required for all Bearsville addresses; access via Route 212 from the Route 375 junction |
|
Willow (Saugerties / Woodstock border area) – Small community in the mountains; primarily single-family homes and some rural properties; narrow mountain roads; truck access assessment required; access via Witchtree Road or county routes |
|
Lake Hill (Woodstock) – Hamlet on Route 212 west of Woodstock; primarily single-family homes; some mountain road properties; good truck access on Route 212 for most addresses; side road assessment for properties off the main route |
|
Mount Tremper (Shandaken) – Hamlet on Route 28 at the Esopus Creek; primarily single-family homes and some mountain properties; Route 28 is accessible for standard trucks at this point; side road assessment for properties off Route 28; access via Route 28 |
|
Phoenicia (Shandaken) – Mountain hamlet on Route 28 at Esopus Creek; popular destination for second-home buyers and permanent relocations; Route 28 through Phoenicia is accessible; Main Street has limited staging during summer tourist season; some surrounding mountain roads require truck-size assessment; access via Route 28 |
|
Shandaken (Town) – Township encompassing Phoenicia, Big Indian, Pine Hill, and surrounding areas; building stock ranges from accessible Route 28-adjacent homes to remote mountain properties on narrow unpaved roads; Dream Moving treats all Shandaken addresses as requiring truck-access assessment before scheduling; shuttle truck may be required for properties beyond Route 28 |
|
Big Indian (Shandaken) – High-elevation hamlet on Route 28; primarily single-family homes and some seasonal cabins; Route 28 accessible; side roads require assessment; access via Route 28 |
|
Pine Hill (Shandaken) – Hamlet at the Route 28 / Route 47 junction; primarily single-family homes and some vacation properties; Route 28 accessible for standard trucks; Route 47 climbs steeply – truck-access assessment required for all Route 47 addresses; access via Route 28 |

Oliverea / Big Indian Mountain Road area (Shandaken) – Very high-elevation properties on Big Indian Mountain Road and surrounding county roads; these are among the most remote residential addresses in Ulster County; Dream Moving assesses all roads, grades, and driveways before scheduling any Oliverea or Big Indian Mountain Road job; shuttle truck is likely required for interior mountain addresses |
|
Shokan / West Shokan (Olive) – Reservoir-adjacent communities on Route 28A; primarily single-family homes; Route 28A accessible for standard trucks; some properties on secondary roads require access assessment; access via Route 28A |
|
Olivebridge (Olive) – Rural hamlet in the Town of Olive; primarily single-family homes and some farm properties; good main-road truck access; rural road and driveway assessment for properties off Route 28A or Beaverkill Road |
|
Boiceville (Olive) – Small hamlet on Route 28; primarily single-family homes; good Route 28 access for standard trucks; side road assessment for off-road properties; access via Route 28 |
|
Chichester (Shandaken) – Hamlet on the Stony Clove Creek; primarily single-family homes; Route 214 access (which connects Route 28 to Hunter / Greene County); some narrow sections of Route 214 require truck-size assessment; access via Route 28 to Route 214 |
Southern Ulster - Communities We Serve
Southern Ulster stretches from the Shawangunk Mountains south toward the Orange County border, encompassing Ellenville, Napanoch, Wawarsing, and the agricultural communities of the Rondout Valley. Ellenville is the zone’s primary urban community – a compact small city with a mix of apartment buildings, attached homes, and historic commercial-residential buildings. The Shawangunk Ridge creates the zone’s most dramatic topography, with the escarpment rising sharply above the Wallkill Valley floor. Napanoch and Kerhonkson are the primary residential communities between Ellenville and the central county. Route 209 is the primary truck corridor through this zone, running from Kingston south to Ellenville and into Sullivan County.

Really great service! They were extremely professional and took such great care of the furniture and big items. They also provided a COI promptly that met all my buildings requirements (both buildings).
