All I can say is that moving with Dream Moving was an absolute dream!! I have heard of so many moving companies who make your move a total nightmare, so I was not going into hiring movers with high hopes. After doing a lot of research and reading many reviews, I was still on the fence on who to hire. It came down to a friend of mine referring me to Dream Moving, so I decided to go with them. I was moving my wife and baby from our 2 bedroom apartment in Manhattan to our new 2 story house in North Carolina. Dream Moving quoted me the lowest out of any other movers (extremely lower than any other company) and they did not raise the price on me in any way before or after the move was over. They arrived on time, moved me out of my apartment, then drove straight through that day/night and delivered my stuff 15 hours later! So many other moving companies would give me a window from anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks, but not Dream Moving! They were professional, courteous, efficient, fast, and reliable. I would really like to thank John, Cristian, and Washington for making everything go so smoothly. You guys were amazing!! John was the best supervisor you could ever work with and Cristian and Washington were the 2 who drove all the way to North Carolina and unloaded all our furniture. Moving on Staten Island is different from moving anywhere else in New York City. Every truck entering or leaving the island from the Brooklyn side must cross the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which has a posted height restriction of 13 feet 6 inches on the lower level and a truck toll that applies to every crossing. Your single-family home in Todt Hill sits on the highest point on the US Eastern Seaboard south of Maine – some of the residential streets approaching it are too steep for a full-size moving truck. Your condo in Arden Heights on the South Shore requires crew and truck to cross the Staten Island Expressway before 8 AM if you want to avoid the morning backup that stacks from Exit 13 all the way through New Springville.
Dream Moving covers every neighborhood on Staten Island, from St. George and Tompkinsville on the North Shore to Tottenville and Charleston at the island’s southern tip. We account for the Verrazzano toll in your quote – it is never added as a surprise line item. We assess truck height against bridge clearance before scheduling. We time moves to avoid Expressway congestion. Every job gets an all-inclusive hourly quote with no charges added at the door.

Staten Island Building Types - What Each One Requires
Single-Family Detached Homes
Single-family detached homes are the dominant building type on Staten Island – far more so than in any other borough. They define the landscape of Arden Heights, Great Kills, Tottenville, New Dorp, Heartland Village, Willowbrook, and most of the South Shore and Mid-Island neighborhoods. Move access is through a front door and interior staircase. Driveways are common and reduce the carry distance from truck to door in many properties. Front steps, garden gates, and rear-yard storage areas each require a specific plan before the first box moves. We size crews for the specific home configuration at quote time.
Two-Family Homes and Attached Row Houses
Two-family homes and attached row houses are concentrated on the North Shore – particularly in Port Richmond, Stapleton, Tompkinsville, New Brighton, and West New Brighton. Move access requires coordination when both units are involved in separate moves on the same day, which is common at North Shore properties. Interior staircases in two-family homes vary from wide and accessible to narrow and requiring disassembly of large furniture. We assess staircase configuration at quote time.
Garden Apartment Complexes and Condo Developments
Garden apartment complexes and condo developments are concentrated in New Springville, Heartland Village, Arden Heights, Bay Terrace, Oakwood, and parts of the South Shore. Move access varies by complex: some have ground-floor unit access with short outdoor carry paths, others have internal staircases or elevators. COI is required in some managed condo associations, particularly in newer South Shore developments. We contact the complex or association management at booking to confirm access protocol.
Co-op and Managed Elevator Buildings
Co-op and managed elevator apartment buildings are less common on Staten Island than in the other four boroughs, but they are present – primarily in New Brighton, Stapleton, Clifton, and some parts of New Springville. These buildings require COI naming the managing agent as additional insured, a confirmed elevator reservation, and sometimes a move deposit. We file COIs same-day at no charge and book elevator windows in advance.
Hill and Elevated Terrain Properties
Todt Hill is the highest natural point on the US Eastern Seaboard south of Maine. Grymes Hill, Emerson Hill, Ward Hill, and Silver Lake Hill all have residential streets that are too steep or too narrow for a full-size 26-foot moving truck. We assess truck size and approach routing for all Todt Hill, Grymes Hill, Emerson Hill, Ward Hill, Lighthouse Hill, and Silver Lake addresses at quote time. Some jobs on these hills require a shuttle truck – a smaller vehicle that ferries items from the large truck staged at the base of the hill to the property entrance. The need for a shuttle is disclosed in writing before the move date.
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and Island Access
The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge is the primary truck access route between Staten Island and the rest of New York City on the Brooklyn side. The lower level has a posted height clearance of 13 feet 6 inches. Any moving truck taller than this clearance must either use the upper level (which has a 14-foot clearance) or take an alternative route via New Jersey. We verify truck height against bridge clearance requirements before scheduling any Staten Island job crossing from Brooklyn.
The bridge has a toll for commercial vehicles that applies to every crossing. Dream Moving incorporates the Verrazzano toll into the job cost at quote time. It is never added as a separate line item after the job is complete. For moves connecting Staten Island to New Jersey, we route via the Outerbridge Crossing, Goethals Bridge, or Bayonne Bridge depending on truck size and destination address. All three New Jersey bridge routes are toll-free for vehicles traveling eastbound (into Staten Island); tolls apply westbound.

Dream Moving specializes in tackling these challenges. Our professional team ensures your move is smooth and stress-free from start to finish. We provide services tailored to your needs, no matter the distance or complexity.
Staten Island Expressway
Staten Island Expressway and Move Timing
The Staten Island Expressway (I-278) is the main east-west artery connecting the North Shore bridges and the Verrazano to the South Shore. During weekday morning rush hours (7 AM to 9 AM) and evening rush (4 PM to 7 PM), the Expressway backs up significantly near Richmond Avenue (Exit 13) through New Springville (Exit 15). A move starting on the South Shore that requires the crew to cross the island via the Expressway during peak hours can add 30 to 45 minutes to transit time.
We recommend morning move starts before 7 AM for South Shore jobs requiring Expressway transit, and off-peak afternoon scheduling (after 10 AM) for mid-island and cross-island moves. For same-neighborhood moves within the North Shore or South Shore, Expressway timing is less critical. We discuss move timing recommendations with every client at the quote stage.
How Staten Island Local Moves Are Priced?
Local moves on Staten Island are priced hourly. The rate is based on crew size and truck configuration. Dream Moving’s all-inclusive hourly quote covers labor, truck, fuel, blanket wrap, basic valuation coverage, and the Verrazzano toll for moves crossing via Brooklyn. The minimum job length is 2 hours. There is no flight-of-stairs fee, no fuel surcharge, no bridge toll add-on, and no charge for COI filing or furniture wrap. The number you receive at quote is the number on your invoice.

North Shore
North Shore Neighborhoods We Serve
The North Shore is Staten Island's most urban zone, stretching from St. George and the Staten Island Ferry Terminal east along Bay Street through Tompkinsville, Stapleton, Clifton, and Rosebank to Fort Wadsworth at the base of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. It is the most densely built area of the borough with the highest concentration of attached homes, two-family houses, low-rise apartment buildings, and some co-op elevator buildings. The Staten Island Ferry terminal at St. George is a significant logistical landmark: ferries carry passengers only, not moving trucks. All trucks access and leave the island via bridge, not ferry.

East Shore
East Shore Neighborhoods We Serve
The East Shore runs along the Lower New York Bay from Arrochar south through South Beach, Midland Beach, New Dorp Beach, New Dorp, and Oakwood to Great Kills and Bay Terrace. This is Staten Island’s boardwalk zone: South Beach Boardwalk and Midland Beach Boardwalk attract significant summer traffic that affects truck staging in adjacent residential streets during peak season. The dominant building type is attached and semi-detached homes, with some garden apartment complexes and condo developments in Oakwood and Grant City.

The West Shore runs along the Kill Van Kull and Arthur Kill waterways from Port Richmond south through Mariners Harbor, Arlington, Elm Park, Bloomfield, Travis, and Port Ivory to Charleston at the southwestern tip. This is the island’s most industrial and working-class zone, historically tied to port activity, oil refining, and manufacturing. The residential building stock is predominantly attached homes, two-family houses, and some single-family homes. Several West Shore neighborhoods are adjacent to active industrial and port areas that affect truck access timing on main arterials. The Bayonne Bridge and Goethals Bridge provide direct access to New Jersey from this zone.
